With the weather warming up, it’s time to start thinking about how the heat and the dryness or humidity of your area will affect the look and feel of your skin. So to help ensure that your skin stays beautiful and comfortable all throughout the summer months, here are three tips for your summer skincare.
Keep Everything Lighter
According to Leah Prinzivalli, a contributor to Allure.com, your summer skincare and routines should all be about keeping things light and not packing too much product onto your skin.
To do this, the first thing you should adjust is your cleanser. If you typically use a cream or oil-based cleanser to wash your face, you may want to swap it out for a foaming cleanser that’s going to be more gentle on your skin. Additionally, you may want to reconsider how often you choose to put on a full face of makeup during the summer, as things like sweat or being in water can easily cause your makeup to come off and potentially leave you looking streaky or splotchy.
Choose The Right Sunscreen
Arguably the most important thing to put on your skin in the summer, and all year round, is sunscreen. Especially in the summer, people tend to spend quite a bit of time outside in the sun. And while this can be a great way to naturally get some vitamin D, if you don’t protect your skin from the harsh rays of the sun, you can severely damage your skin for the rest of your life.
When choosing a sunscreen to use, Dulce Zamora, a contributor to WebMD.com, recommends that you keep a few things in mind. First, you should look for something that is water-resistant. This will help ensure that your sunscreen stays on when you sweat or get wet. Additionally, you should apply a sunscreen that has SPF 15 or higher and protects you from broad-spectrum exposure.
Exfoliate Before Bed
Exfoliating is always an important part of any skincare routine. But in the summer, when you exfoliate is going to be even more important than during other times of the year.
According to Wendy Rose Gould, a contributor to Real Simple, it’s best to exfoliate your skin at night before you go to bed. When you exfoliate, you’re getting rid of extra layers of dead skin cells that can serve to further protect your skin from the elements. So by exfoliating at night, you’re giving your skin a chance to rest and rebuild while you sleep so it’s not extra sensitive when you leave your house in the morning.
To help you have great skin this summer, consider using the tips mentioned above as part of your summer skincare routine.
